The badger families have made Griffon Forest their home!
During your stay at Griffon Forest we hope you have the pleasure of meeting some of our 'special residents'. The badgers can often be spotted pottering around the lodges on an evening searching for food. Their favourite foods are peanuts, peanut butter or cereal - sprinkle some onto your decking and the badgers will come to visit you! If you prefer to watch the badgers daily activity from the comfort of the sofa, then tune into the Wild Watch channels, where live footage of their daily adventures is beamed back to your TV.
The Badgers live in the Setts in families which are passed down through each generation. They have litters of 1 – 5 cubs that are born around February and come out in April for the first time. They grow to about 90cm.
Watch out for our Roe Deer family!
Despite being a very shy wild animal, the Griffon Forest team and guests have often spotted a family of Roe Deer as they use the walks and trails around the estate.
The male is called a Buck and the female is called a Doe. The kids are born between May and June. When they are young the mothers will leave them in long grass whilst they go off to eat to keep them safe and hidden.
Get your walking legs on and head out on the walks particularly at dusk and dawn to have a better chance of seeing them.
Bird and Bird of Prey
Bird Watch from Your Hot Tub!
Griffon Forest is full of bird life. Sit back and relax quietly on your deck or in your hot tub and you will see many Robins, Coal Tits, Great Tits, Blue Tits, Long Tailed Tits, Tree Creepers, Blackbirds and Woodpeckers exploring the forest trees around you.
?Explore around the estate further and look out for a couple of kingfishers, which have been spotted down the entrance drive, a Buzzard, Tawny Owls and Little Owls.
If you would like to see what the birds get up to in the bird boxes then tune into the Wild Watch on your TV and see the live coverage.
Keep an eye on Griffon Forests Cheeky Squirrels!
Grey squirrels are in abundance at Griffon Forest and are a joy to encounter and watch at work. For many of us they are the only wild mammals we regularly see.
They also love to eat peanuts and often try to get in first before the badgers so make sure you put out plenty!
